Urban Tapestries is an ongoing series inspired by the birds that live alongside us. Most of the works are set within California's changing urban and natural landscapes, with a small number looking beyond the state. The series considers how birds adapt to environments, while also serving as a broader metaphor about belonging, survival, and change.
Each tapestry combines labor intensive processes including rug tufting, embroidery, quilting, appliqué, felting, teddy bear eye insertion, and handwork.
The birds are part of the everyday landscape, but they also reflect the ways we respond to disruption and adapt to the places we inhabit.
